Artist Statement

The three images shown here are a small sampling of a larger project utilizing models who are lit simply and starkly to create a mysterious and magical atmosphere. Healing hands are a major part of the subject. The primary model uses her hands as tools for healing touch, and they are the source of energy and light. I experimented with photographing the model in motion to create a sense of energy emanating from her body, and also the illusion that she is in more than one place simultaneously. These effects were produced by an exposure of several seconds.

Biography

A native Californian, I taught dance in colleges and universities around the country for 20 years, and then taught ballroom dance for another decade here in Columbus. I began taking photography classes “for fun” at OSU and found I had a deep interest in creating images. For the past few years I have studied with Ua Chamberlain both privately and in group settings; and this is my first major project under his teaching. My interests in photography include landscapes, flowers, abstracts and portraits. My love of dancing and movement are reflected in this current project.
