Artist Statement

The Couples & the Covered Bridge project was inspired by my love of nature, old barns, and covered bridges, and my desire to visually communicate the importance of the relationship between two people. For the location I chose the Pottersburg Covered Bridge for all my portraits because it is very picturesque and it is the only covered bridge that has a natural scenic background. Most of the people I photographed in this project are dear friends, but a few of the couples I had met for the first time. Through this project I learned how to connect with people on a different level than I am used to, and although challenging, this has been a great experience that has taught me to slow down and take my time.
