Katie Hurier as the Food & Product Photo Artist

By October 1, 2015 June 23rd, 2016 Meet the Photographers

I know why the caged bird sings. It involves a lot of beautiful, lyrical description that you should totally read when you get the chance, but let’s get down to brass tacks (whatever that means). That bird is singing because he’s caged up and needs his sweet, sweet freedom. That is the story of Katie, our food and product photographer.
Katie began her career in graphic imaging, spending long hours in a windowless room, staring at her computer without blinking. We’ve seen horror films that begin this way. Although Katie enjoyed graphic imaging, she regretted being involved in only the last part of a project. This itch led her to an internship with a commercial photographer, where she saw the light. Literally. We need all kinds of lights for this type of work. Katie has been lighting food and products to perfection ever since. We’re so grateful she’s now found her way to UA Creative, even though she keeps trying to light our food instead of letting us eat it. Dammit Katie, we’re hungry.

To see the light on Katie, check out the questionnaire below!

Movie(s) you could watch on repeat.

The Sandlot, The Devil Wears Prada, Father of the Bride, Ratatouille!

Who or what is your spirit animal?

Lion cubs!

First CD/album/cassette tape you ever purchased?

NSYNC… yep, no shame

Food that is your lifeblood?

I could survive on nothing but sweets, mainly chocolate. It’s so bad that I MUST have dessert after every meal, not to mention the 7 tablespoons of sugar in my coffee every morning.

Do you have a nickname?

Before I was married no one was able to call me Katie it always had to be Katie Lipps, they said it rolled off the tongue better if you included my last name. Now with a new last name it’s Kate, so original.

Favorite activity for a rainy day?

Something involving sweatpants, blankets, coffee, and a brainless book.

Favorite activity for a beautiful summer day?

Hiking with my husband and pup (adorably named Kona)! Or a grill out with friends, pools, and cornhole!

Something people would be surprised to learn about you?

That my first degree is in Graphic Imaging while also receiving a certificate as a production artist. I still do work on the side where these two degrees come in handy (such as designing photo strips for my cousin’s photo booth at Cincy Wedding Services)

Weird human trick or hidden talents?

I can make some pretty odd and terrifying faces… only the lucky people get to see them though.

What was the weirdest behavior you had as a child?

My neighborhood friends, sister and I would would draw GIANT interiors of houses on our driveways. We would also draw horse stables outside our make believe houses and act like our bikes were horses. Thinking back on those houses we must of had some damn good income.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I wish i had the ability to memorize every good movie title, actors or singers name, song  titles and movie quotes at the drop of a hat… my memory is terrible for things of the sort…or play the guitar.

Besides what you currently do, what do you wish someone paid you to do? This doesn’t have to be a well-known job, you can get creative.

I wish someone would pay me to act like I knew how to play soccer… I’m good at that!

Decade in history (besides this one) you think you would have been best suited for?

60s or 70s, something about my parent’s generations growing up fascinates me.

What do you think your identifier is? Like if someone were trying to describe you to someone else, what would they say first?

“That friendly, creative, athletic brunette”

What makes you cringe?

Ribbon, wet paper, straw wrappers… odd? No unique!

Also, Katie can and will own you at Shanghai Rummy.
